Thank you for your
trust and let us hope that your great program will find its deserved
audience and market. I can use the vital parts of the program now:
the database with its phenomenal search features (! the best around,
I think), the tutorials (!) and play chess against the program...The
program is wonderful!
Prof. Djordje Vidanovic, Serbia
There is simply no
other tutorial program that gives you as much for your money as
Chess Academy does ...
KOMPUTER KORNER, Canada
My first impressions
are very good. As active chess player (up to 1998, ELO 2275) I think
that the Chess Academy is already better than (....), offers huge
number of program features, searches (for example by own games) in
1.600.000 database are extremelly quick, so I was simply wundered.
Phantastic!
Michael Borgstaedt, Author of Goliath Program, Germany
Now we have a new
release of Chess Academy, which brings various improvements respect
to the previous edition, especially in the database capability and
the interface.
Dr. Francesco Di Tolla, Italy
"A promising first
title ... Isolated Pawn positions are very common, and can arise
from many openings ... A total of 201 early and late middlegame
positions from master play are discussed, categorised by various
themes ... in general production quality is good, and the examples
interesting".
The BRITISH CHESS MAGAZINE about ISOLATED PAWN, Reviews and New
Books in Brief - No.9 Sept. 1995, page 468
Excellent product!
Roberto Alvarez, AJEDREZ INTEGRAL, Argentina
It is easy to learn
and use. ... I also think that you offer good value for the money -
I intend to point this out in the review.

I looked at the
complete Chess Academy 2000 system, containing all the
tutorial modules (23 of them). Various configurations of the
program are available, the principal difference among them
being the number and types of tutorial modules that are
included. This new version represents a significant upgrade
from the previous one. With this latest release, Chess
Academy wants to be your one program that can be used for
any chess task you might have – i.e. play a game, conduct
database analysis, or do some training with the many
training modules.

Winboard-Expert Frank Quisinsky from Trier wrotes:
Chess Academy can amaze... The
database with appr. 1.600.000 games, I
have searched long time for doubles or misspelled names and
such games were absent. I was amazed also concerning
of speed of searches. For example on
my AMD K6-3 450 MHz it takes only few seconds to search by
different criteria. The Chess Academy offers an
excellent 3D-board graphics. On my option, tutorial and
training modules are simply a unique part of program, I do
not know any other program which has such quality and
contents of tutorials like Chess Academy does it.

I
reviewed the complete Chess Academy 99 system,
containing all the tutorial modules (23 of them).
Various configurations of the program are available,
the principal difference among them being the number
and types of tutorial modules that are included.
Prospective purchasers of this software should check
the Chess Academy Website to determine the
combination of modules that best suits their needs.
I believe I can sum up both reviews by saying that
the tutorial functions are the best feature of this
program. There is truly an incredible amount of
instructional material included in them.
I found
the database portion of the software to be well
designed, and relatively easy to work with. Most
searches can be accomplished very quickly ... Chess
Academy 99 was exceedingly stable, and I think that
there has been a significant amount of time poured
into testing. Indeed, the pre-release version that I
reviewed was more stable than many final releases I
have seen. All in all, I think it is a very good
value for the money.

wrotes:
Now we
have a new release, which brings various
improvements respect to the previous edition,
especially in the database capability and the
interface. The Tutorial functionality of the program
is a very powerful one. In general the interface was
improved quite a lot. The handling of databases was
in general greatly improved, respect to former
version which was a bit "lagging" respect to
competition. Some general limits were removed
totally or in part: the maximum number of moves in a
game was raised to 250; the maximum number of games
which can fit in datasets (kind of multiple
clipboards) is now ~524.000 (before it was 65.000),
and the maximum year which can be stored in the date
is now 4096 (was 2003); the content was greatly
enlarged, from nearly 500,000 games (as in the
biggest database of former version) to nearly
1,600,000 games of this version, also the quality of
the spellings was further improved; the database
format was improved to include multimedia
extensions...

Software-Expert
KOMPUTER KORNER from Canada wrotes:
There is simply no other tutorial program that gives you as
much for your money as Chess Academy does.
|
Chess Academy 3.0 is the (16-bit) version of
Windows based chess database which offers an
unique built in tutorial sub program. The
reason to buy Chess Academy which goes for
about $100 U.S. (for the Main Package) is
for the tutorials. Having a board diagram on
the screen at all times is a vast
improvement on a book and the per example
cost of the modules is cheaper than a book.
The tutorials in Chess Academy are well
worth the money and far surpass the
tutorials in a program like Tasc Chess
Tutor. All aspects of positional and
combinatorial chess are covered in topics
ranging from the Isolated pawn to concepts
like the Bishop Pair and the Encyclopaedia
of Chess Endings, Encyclopaedia of Chess
Combinations and Encyclopaedia of Chess
Studies.
The program provides easy access to as many
as 25,000 tutorial & training examples (2
Main Modules and 21 additional Modules) plus
3 databases Profi (523,247 games), Super
(367,523 games) & Select (78,657 games).
Previous tutorials from the Chess Academy 2
for DOS can also be installed.
You can add in your own examples and a
special board window opens up with which you
can set up the pieces and provide all the
position header information. Variants are
shown on a special additional board, which
you can toggle on, or off. The tutorials
provide a way to test yourself on the same
concept of Chess Mentor.
You have the choice of 3 different piece
sets and the best one provides excellent
piece graphics especially the black pieces.
You have a complete choice of changing to
your own color tastes and you can define the
size of the board in 5 sizes.
As with all windows programs you can move
the active window around to any part of the
screen and tile and cascade each one with
others.
Along with search by header, material, and
position you can search by route.
You can sort by 6 different ways.
You can print out the tree and it presents
diagrams at many branches of tree plus the
complete game scores of every game line.
There are 6 different types of header and
game statistics as well as the usual stats
on % score per move for the white and black
moves.
Default move option lets you change the
beginning move number for each game.
There is a disk space menu item, which lets
you know from within the program the amount
of free disk space on each of your hard
drive partitions.
Animation speed lets you set the time
intervals by both setting the animation
speed and the movetime (time between each
move during the tutorial replay).
There is a code system menu box, which
presents all the move symbols, which can be
accessed both by shortcut keys and the
numeric keypad.
Both the Chess Informant and Chess Academy
symbols can be used. Any installed Chess
Academy TrueType font or another font can be
used.
The program provides more game header
information than any other program on the
market and includes such info as the player
title, time control style, human or
computer, and game marks/classes/medals plus
lots of space for game header comments. |
